Plain-language draft, not formal legal advice. NextDen is an independent, student-built project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Northeastern University.
What we collect
- Account: your
@northeastern.eduemail address (to verify you're part of the Northeastern community). - What you choose to post: for a listing or roommate profile — your name, a contact method (e.g. WhatsApp, phone, or email), program, budget range, preferred areas, move-in timing, and the free-text descriptions you write.
- Activity: basic usage so we can understand how many people use NextDen (e.g. a once-per-day record that you were active, and which listings you saved or revealed contact for). We use Vercel Analytics for aggregate, privacy-friendly traffic metrics.
Where it lives
Your data is stored in our database (Supabase / PostgreSQL). Every table enforces row-level security, so you can only write your own rows, and contact details are never included in a page's initial markup — they load only when a user clicks “Show contact.”
Who can see it
- Other verified Northeastern users can see your listing or profile and, via click-to-reveal, the contact method you provided. Don't put anything in a listing you wouldn't want other NEU students to see.
- The NextDen team sees only aggregate metrics (counts, totals) on an admin dashboard — not your individual browsing.
- We do not sell your data, and we do not share student data with brokers. Broker inventory flows one way only (from a broker's own listing sheet into NextDen); nothing about you is sent outward to brokers.
Retention and deletion
We keep your data while your account is active. You can delete individual listings any time, or delete your entire account and associated data from your account page. You can also export a copy of your data there. Deleting your account removes your listings, roommate profile, saved/contacted history, and consent records.
